Abstract

(Excerpt taken from the English version in Postmodernism and Public Policy, 2001) Christianity has lost its dominant role in the Western world. In many countries it is no longer politically established as the official and state-support religion, and even where such support exits it has declining significance. More importantly, Christianity no longer occupies the primary place in the commitment system of most citizens. Even most of those who attend church have their basic attitudes and convictions shaped by sources other than the Christian Community and its traditions. In the eyes of many intellectual and opinion-maker, the church is an anachronistic institution.
