Cobb, John. Jr. "Walking out of Economics and Ecology's Confrontational Ravine." in Globalization and Postmoderism. Wang, Zhihe & Xue, Xiaoyuan (Eds). China: Guangxi Normal University Press. 2003. 112-119.

(translated excerpt) Even though human kind is facing many problems today, I believe, the fundamental is to take care of the tension between economics and ecology. This is rather ironic, because the original meaning of the two terms is hard to separate apart.  Both originate from Greek's Oikos, meaning household.  Ecology's household is Logos, economic's household is Nomos. Logos can be translated to mean reason, Nomos can be translated into law, but their connotation overlaps.   Nevertheless, ecology and economics' current meanings are very different.
