Abstract
If we as a human species are going to thrive and even
survive, we need to move to an ecological civilization. Developing an
ecological civilization will be possible, however, only if we leave the modern
world order behind favor of a postmodern world order: global democracy. Those
who desire an ecological civilization, therefore, should work for global
democracy. This is the argument of the present essay. To see why global
democracy would be the precondition for an ecological civilization, we need to
understand the present structure of civilization, which is a distinctively
modern form of anarchy.
